Scratch the Bird

A buttered piece
of lukewarm bread
on a car bumper

Rays of sun and
drops of rain on
a languid day

A bag of money,
always all ones,
a cash advance

Windshield glare
and bench ads
on the open road

My left sock with
a gaping hole
is the air I need

I’ve been trying
my whole life to
scratch the bird
