Another Version of Myself

When I look in the mirror,
I see another version
of myself looking back
I’m younger and fitter
and quite flexible

But then I walk down
the hallway, bend over
to get something off
the dust-ridden floor
and realize that I’m old

I run back to the mirror
to see an older version
of me; no longer a
time capsule of power,
but a wilting shell

Hair grows out of my
ear like a cornstalk
and I barely care
because tweezers
are man’s enemy

I suck in, breathe deep
and roll myself through
the backyard mud
until I am flattened
like a Xerox of myself
