Basking in the Glow of a Shallow Pool
I don’t like what I see
reflecting back to me
because it’s shimmering
and I like to stand still
to avoid the wind swell
from blowing the hair up
on the back of my neck
It’s strange to look for
some kind of solace
in a puddle outside of
a nondescript building
on any road in this
city of wayward fog
and capsized humans
I kick it to change its
response, but it stares
back at me like a
painting on the wall
of a craft museum
on a side street
with limited parking
But then light hits
at the right time
and what I see
is the real me
basking in the
glow of a
shallow pool
