Inclination

Sometimes I have the inclination
to do something very special,
but I don’t because I really
appreciate the humdrum
nature of every other day

I’d rather spend most of
my time feeling disinclined
to do anything of substance
because daily ennui
is a forgotten luxury

Obligations, obfuscations,
and a hearty to-do list
make for a daily scroll
of things to avoid like
a classical side-stepper

So, I lay down on a chaise
with a book of fiction
to imbibe someone else’s
life of bold grandeur
inside my inactivity
