Shin Kicks

Our days are so volatile
with the maelstrom that
propagates our feeds
and destroys our brains
while the sun is shining
and the rain is raining
and we can’t see either
because our heads
are always down
so we can look into
the void and get some
sense of autonomy

Everything we do is
constantly interrupted
by the ungentle pings
and pongs of lost
founders sucking our
soul through devices
so we will eventually
vaporize and upload
ourselves into Utopia
hoping that the swell
of notifications stops
and leaves us alone
with a warm bagel

We can only focus
on puppy breath
for as long as it takes
to get a reminder
that we have a Zoom
meeting with what
seems to be a
prospective client,
but in reality is just
a cloaked spammer
trying to get us to
share our screen
so they can hack
into our Gmail and
send messages to
our friends asking
for some money

Clouds are like
beautiful balloons
rising into the air
and floating with
windswept abandon
to any destination
that will have them
and hold them still,
but we can’t see them
anymore because
we have our heads
down into these
phones that are
just as ungrateful
as four shin kicks
